Preschool Songs and Music Activities

preschool songs

Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord...Ephesians 5:19

Preschool songs and music...Clapping, singing, laughing...in the van, at church, in the bath, around the house, school, in family devotions.

Spiritual songs, fun songs, made up songs...music is all around us and a vital part of our lives.

My preschool children love to sing. Have you ever seen a sad preschooler singing? Probably not. Children have a natural love for music. There is an innate, God given desire for a love a music.

That is why as parents we need to instill in our children the desire for good quality preschool songs!

Preschoolers Music Activities

  • Start out the morning singing after breakfast.
  • Use music during rest or nap time - A CD of calming soothing music, like some of the classical pieces or beautiful hymn arrangements are perfect to set the mood for a restful nap.
  • Teaching the alphabet and counting with preschool fun songs.
  • Make singing while working a special time together.
  • Sing and play games in the car on short or long trips.
  • End the day singing as a family in family devotions - a time when my husband reads and teaches the Bible to us.
  • Take your child to concerts that would be enjoyable to a preschooler

Practice musical patterns — clap or stomp short rhythm patterns. Have your child repeat the pattern. Gradually make the rhythms more complicated.

Make your own musical instruments.

  • Cymbals out of old tin foil pans by attaching a string for a handle.
  • Drums from coffee cans
  • Shakers: Put stones or beads in a container with a lid.
  • Bang on a pot lid with a spoon,
  • Pluck rubber bands around a shoe box
  • Play a toy xylophone

Preschool Music and the Brain

I started my first son and daughter, listening to good music when they were babies. When they turned 3 and 4, I enrolled them in a violin program at the church we attended. I have tried over the years to have each of my other eight children learn some kind of instrument. We currently have a cello, three violins, and one piano player
